If you sew or embroider often, you know how important your computer becomes in the process. From
embroidery designs to sewing patterns, everything is easier when your files are organized and simple to find.
This hands-on class will help you organize your embroidery design files so your computer works for you, not
against you. We’ll get you started on a practical organizing system tailored to your needs. Together, we will
look at where your files are currently stored, discuss how you’d like them organized, and walk step-by-step
through how to clean up and improve your setup.
During class we will:

• Review your current file locations and folder structure
• Create a simple, easy-to-maintain organization system
• Download an embroidery design from the internet
• Move a design to a thumb drive and then to your embroidery machine
• Review whatever embroidery software you already have installed
• Open and print a design from your software (when available)
• Discuss free software options if you don’t currently have any installed

This is not a basic computer class. You should already be able to:

• Start your computer
• Open File Manager / File Explorer
• Locate your Downloads and Documents folders
• Access your C: drive
• Use the internet
• Before class, please search for embroidery design websites you like and bring a short list with you. If you need

help with any of the basic skills above, YouTube has many good beginner tutorials.
What to Bring:

• Laptop computer (not a phone, iPad, or tablet)
• Mouse
• Power cord
• At least one thumb drive

Desktop computer users are welcome, but since you can’t bring your desktop to class, some steps will be
demonstrated rather than completed directly on your machine.
If your computer relies on an external hard drive, please bring it. If you don’t have one, don’t worry — I will
have one available for class use. We’ll practice moving an embroidery design from a disk to your computer, into
your organized file system, and then onto a thumb drive.
