American Pie Stash Pot Pie Month 3

At first glance, this block doesn’t much resemble the
traditional Four Patch. Each block is, however, made
from four pieces—a square, two small triangles, and one
larger triangle. Depending on color placement, a strong
geometric design can be formed with these blocks, and
it’s fun to experiment with different layouts.

Choosing Fabric
As with most scrap quilts, anything goes for color with this quilt.
Some thought should be given, however, to depth or strength of color
of the small square in the block. This piece should be bold enough to
stand out, or at least have enough contrast with the other fabrics to
set it apart. Using the same fabric for all these squares is a safe bet,
but you could use scraps if the value is the same in all of them. The
large triangle could be scraps of mixed color like 1930s or floral
prints, or you could do all red scraps and use blue for the small
squares for a patriotic quilt—an American Pie quilt!
